Advancing Healthy Out-of-School Time: Reaching New Standards

Hall90x90Georgia Hall, a senior research scientist at the National Institute on Out-of-School Time (NIOST), spoke recently at the National AfterSchool Association's annual convention about the HOST Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) Standards.

Hall discussed the importance of out-of-school (OST) time programs in promoting heathy eating and physical activity; the development and adoption of the HEPA standards; and how OST programs can use research findings to advance healthy OST. She offered a number of suggestions for how OST programs can reach the new standards.
