Preventing Childhood Obesity in Early Care and Education
Preventing Childhood Obesity in Early Care and Education: Selected Standards from Caring for Our Children: National Health and Safety Performance Standards; Guidelines for Early Care and Education Programs, 3rd Edition, 2010, by the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Public Health Association and the National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education, is the new set of evidence-based national standards for best practices in nutrition, physical activity and screen time in early care and education programs.
The standards are for ALL types of early care and education settings—centers and family child care homes. These updated standards will be a part of the third edition of the new comprehensive Caring for Our Children: National Health and Safety Performance Standards; Guidelines for Early Care and Education Programs, Third Edition (CFOC, 3rd Ed.) to be released in 2011*. The standards support key national campaigns for early development of healthy lifestyle habits such as Let’s Move and Healthy Weight Initiative, and specifically assist early care and education programs with the development FOREWORD and implementation of best practices, procedures, and policies to instill healthy behavior and healthy lifestyle choices in our youngest children in direct support of the prevention of obesity.
