The Assessment of Program Practices Tool (APT)

The Assessing Afterschool Program Practices Tool (APT) is designed to complement SAYO by helping programs evaluate and strengthen quality practices that research suggests are linked with SAYO outcomes. APT looks at the overall afterschool program, homework time and activities with two comprehensive tools that combine observation and self-assessment. APT is designed to compliment SAYO, but can also be used on it's own.

Goals of Training:
  • Understand the APT tools and how they are used for continual program improvement.
  • Develop confidence in using the APT Tools including tailoring the APT for your program.
  • Learn to use APT results to improve your afterschool program.
  • Learn the background of APT and how it fits into the APAS system.
  • Understand how to tailor APT for your program.
Targeted Audience:
  • Evaluators, afterschool directors, supervisors, curriculum & education coordinators, and 21st CCLC personnel interested in utilizing the APAS system.
Training Content:
  • One day of training.
  • Learn the APT-Observation and APT-Quality Tools to improve your program.
  • Practice using the observation tool with the NIOST APT DVD.
  • Optional training DVD for purchase.
  • Learn the background of APT and how it fits into the APAS system.
