Directions to the John Hancock Conference Center

The John Hancock Conference Center is located at:

John Hancock Conference Center
40 Trinity Place, Boston, MA 02116

Directions from Logan Airport

We do not recommend renting a car and attempting to drive in Boston. It is a difficult city to navigate under the best of circumstances. But, if you must: ask the car rental firm for "today’s" directions to Copley Square (specifically Stuart Street, between Clarendon and Dartmouth). See the sheet with directions to the John Hancock Conference Center parking garage. Boston is four miles southwest of Logan airport, and you will take the Sumner Tunnel to the city. Journey time to downtown Boston is 10-15 minutes, if traffic is moving.

TAXI
IF YOU ARE STAYING AT THE JOHN HANCOCK CONFERENCE CENTER:
Be sure to emphasize that you do not want to be dropped off at 1) the "old" John Hancock Building, or at 2) the "new" John Hancock Tower; but, rather at the John Hancock Conference Center, which is at 40 Trinity Place, a quick right off of Stuart Street between Clarendon and Dartmouth.

Taxis are available outside of each terminal's baggage claim area. Follow signs from baggage claim. Taxi dispatchers are on hand to ensure efficient operation.

Metered fare from Logan Airport will be about $20.00, depending upon your actual downtown destination, the traffic, and time of day. All rides within the city are metered by rate. All cabs have meters, and passengers can insist on a printed-metered receipt. The trip from Logan Airport to Boston requires a total additional fee of $4.50, which includes a fee for service of $1.50 per vehicle plus an airport tunnel toll, which is $3.00 per vehicle. For trips from Boston to Logan there is only an additional fee of $2.25 for service. Thus, it is cheaper to travel by taxi from Boston to Logan Airport than from Logan to Boston.

BUS/VAN
A number of companies run services from the airport to hotels in Copley Square. You may need to walk a bit; the closest hotel drop-off, if the van is not able to drop you right at the John Hancock Conference Center, would be the Copley Plaza--a one-block walk. The cost of the trip is about $15-$20 per person.

Grey Van Express operates a shared van service to many Boston Hotels. This coach service requires reservations 24 to 48 hours in advance. The cost is $20 for one person and there are special rates for groups. The bus stops at the various bus stops located outside the baggage claim area around the airport. You want to go to Copley Square. For details and reservations dial 888-222-5229.

Information about the Boston T

The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority—-known as the "T" in Boston—-is very easy to navigate. A ride costs $2.00. Some stations are very close together and walking the distance is often quicker and more pleasant. There are basically four downtown lines: the Orange, Green, Red, and Blue (the purple "Commuter Rail" goes to the outer neighborhoods and suburbs.) When traveling on the T, remember that Inbound is always toward downtown Boston, and Outbound is away from it. In the subway system, Inbound is toward four stations: Park Street, State, Downtown Crossing and Government Center. (Within those four stations, Inbound and Outbound are not used.)

If you find yourself on a train going the wrong direction, simply get off at the next stop and cross over to the other side to catch one going in the opposite direction. (Note: you cannot crossover for free at Copley station or when you are traveling on an above ground trolley.)

Tickets, known as CharlieTickets, can be purchased in each station at a booth or from a machine. You can put the value of one or more T rides on the ticket, and the appropriate value is deducted each time you ride.

Once on board the train, you can transfer to different lines and change direction without paying extra as long as you do not exit the station.
