NIOST's work focuses mainly on three, interrelated programming priorities:

1. Understanding and building community/infrastructure systems:
Our goal is to have communities across the country utilize NIOST's approach to building and sustaining community infrastructures (planning, information, funding, policy, training, and technical assistance) to enable children and youth -especially those in underserved communities - to access high-quality out-of-school time programs and activities.
