kids runningSeveral different federal departments are offering funding for programs supporting healthy out-of-school time. HOST members have recently shared information about some of them, so take a look!

  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced the availability of $35 million in grants to help schools upgrade their kitchen equipment and infrastructure.
  • Applications are now available for the U.S. Department of Education's Carol M. White Physical Education Program awards (PEP grants), which fund student programs on healthy eating and physical fitness. Both local school districts and community based organizations can apply for the grants; Afterschool Alliance notes that "Many times, school-based applicants work with out-of-school time providers to apply together."
  • The National Summer Learning Association has recapped the U.S. Department of Education's recent Dear Colleague letter to Chief State School Officers clarifying how certain federal funds can be used for summer learning.
  • The National Park Service is accepting applications for the LWCF Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program, a $15 million competitive grant program targeting recreation spaces in urban communities, reports the National Recreation and Park Association.
