HOST Members Start Summer Right
HOST members are sharing ideas and insights on ways to have a healthy and active summer.- The Food Research and Action Center reminds us that Hunger Doesn't Take a Vacation, a new report finding that "after three years of significant growth, national participation in the Summer Nutrition Programs plateaued last summer." The Alliance for a Healthier Generation also wrote about the report, noting that in July 2015, 15.8 children received summer nutrition on a typical weekday for every 100 low-income students who received lunch in the 2014-2015 school year. This means that fewer than one in six children who needed summer meals received them.
- The Food Research and Action Center is also holding a conference call on Cities Operating and Supporting the Summer Nutrition Programs, Thursday, July 7 at 1 p.m. ET. to talk about the Cities Combating Hunger through Afterschool and Summer Meal Programs (CHAMPS), Let's Move!
