New, Free Professional Development Resource for Out-of-School Time Physical Activity

afterschoolgetsmovingA new, free professional development resource, After School Gets Moving, offers a media-based professional development intervention for afterschool practitioners.

Afterschool programs present a strategic opportunity and environment to address the health consequences of insufficient physical activity among children. After School Gets Moving helps practitioners do so by providing them with: (1) a media-based staff training program with developmentally appropriate games/activities and (2) a Leader’s Guide to structure use of the media in a professional development workshop.

The program, developed by Vida Health Communications and funded by the Centers for Disease Control and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, has now been digitalized and is available for free viewing and download.

The National Institute on Out-of-School Time's evaluation of After School Gets Moving concluded that it is “a compelling professional development resource for out-of-school time programs and has the advantage of being re-usable, portable, and customizable for program and participant needs."
